This project involved enhancing and modifying an existing 1980s residence, which had undergone significant renovations before being purchased by the clients. The original house lacked visual appeal from the street, with a small carport and nondescript façade. The clients' requirements included adding an internally accessible garage, a spacious laundry area with ample room for flower arranging and general tasks, and enhancing the street-facing exterior without undertaking a complete recladding or renovation.

In response to the brief, a modern approach was taken, employing a geometric, white perforated aluminium façade to revitalise the exterior. Additionally, a box-like black garage form was introduced on the eastern side of the house, featuring a durable plywood interior perfect for the practicality of the garage.

The design concept extended the overall silhouette of the existing 1980s dwelling, concealing the previous monotonous façade beneath, and bringing it up to contemporary standards. By night, the white façade transforms, creating a captivating star-like effect that enlivens the streetscape and evokes a sense of nostalgia. This addition not only enhances practicality for the owners but also adds an element of enjoyment and engagement for both the owners and the surrounding community, transitioning seamlessly from day to night.
